I am a global business development advisor who drives and sustains growth in new and established markets. My consultancy service – flowspecialists.com helps clients on a world wide basis. Before founding the advisory service, flowspecialists in 2019, Derek was the global business development director for Rotork Controls. Based in Houston he was responsible for new product introduction and sales. Turnover during his tenure increased from 3204M to £325M. He was also responsible for the acquisition of Schischek GmbH, the specialist HVAC company.
Prior to this Derek was a divisonal director for process control and was a general manager for Rotork companies in the UK and USA.
Before joining Rotork Derek held positions in the UK water Industry with Thames Water and Veolia (Compagnie Generale des Eaux) and in the Oil and Gas industry with Texas Instruments in Africa and Asia.
With 25+ years’ experience in the water, process, energy, and oil and gas industries, I have worked for end users, consultants, manufacturers, and suppliers. My diverse experiences have equipped me with an in-depth understanding of industry operations, technologies, applications and challenges, and an appreciation from different perspectives.
An automation and flow control specialist, I bring technical insight and industry experience to guide product development through to sales of value-added systems and products that solve clients’ problems and needs. Able to speak clients’ language, I then provide tactical and strategic advice to enable my clients to understand their options and to grow their businesses.
Qualified in Electrical engineering I am an MIET in the UK and a member of Ordem dos Engenheiros in Portugal.

These are some examples of recent projects that we have undertaken.
I have provided a full suite of technical and commercial services to a regional electric actuator company which wished to expand globally. I undertook technical appraisals and design enhancement recommendations through to a full set of marketing materials including web site, brochures and manuals.
I also established route to market sales channels in Europe and the Americas.
Contracted by an American upstream oil and gas equipment monitoring company to review their operations and produce a sales and marketing plan to increase growth.
The project spanned customers and commercial strategies through to instrumentation, telemetry and data analytics. Particular attention paid to customer retention, route to market, channel partners and monetisation of services.
I have presented a yearly overview of the global flow control market to sell and buy side analysts for an American investment bank in London for many years.
During the presentation I reviewed the performance and trading of global listed flow control companies. I also provided insight and opinions on future prospects.
Assisted the business development team of a large European industrial group in the flow control sector in identifying global opportunities for future business collaboration.
This included technical and commercial advice across a wide range of technologies.
Multiple assignments to provide technical reviews of electrical actuators and associated valves.
These cover everything from specifications and applications through to competitive analysis and marketplace positioning.
